Overview

The United Nations General Assembly 68th Session proclaimed 2015 as the International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies. Light has been playing a vital role in our daily lives. It has revolutionized cross-cutting disciplines from communication to medicine. As a pre-celebration of the Year of Light, IAS Visiting Professors Marvin Cohen and Yuen-Ron Shen (both from University of California at Berkeley) will review the essential role of optical characterization in understanding the properties of materials. Several local experts will also talk about new advances in light based science and technology.
